AUBURNDALE, FL - The Cabrini baseball team lost in a heart breaker to St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon to cap their spring break slate.
The Cardinals used a walkoff three run homer from Anthony Mantova to steal an 11-8 victory from the Blue and White.
Freshman
Christian Strickland powered the offense with a team high three RBI's courtesy of a three run homer. Juniors
Mack McKisson and
Sean Bernardo tallied three hits and an RBI each, while senior
Joe Aurite added his first homer of the year.
Senior
Andrew Corso toed the rubber for his first start of the season and tossed four innings of two run (one earned) ball. Sophomore
Griffin Hays was ultimately saddled with the loss after allowing the aforementioned walkoff homer.
McKisson led things off with an RBI single in the first to plate senior
Shaun Stackhouse. The Cardinals would eventually respond as they pushed across two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
The Blue and White would even things at five a piece thanks to a big seventh inning. After Stackhouse and junior
Brendan Van Belle reached on an error and a single, respectively, Strickland launched his second homer of the year to trim the Cavs deficit to 5-4. A single from sophomore
Joey Moyer served as the equilizer for the Cavaliers before the Cardinals escaped the inning without further damage.
The two teams traded runs in the bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth, respectively, until Cabrini grabbed a two run lead thanks to Aurite's first homer of the year.
St. John Fisher answered in the bottom of the ninth as they sent seven men to the plate and pushed across five runs to take the 11-8 final.
Following yesterday's game, the Cavs move to 5-5 overall as their spring break trip comes to a close. They will return to the diamond on Friday, March 6th when they travel to Frederick, MD to face Hood College at 3pm.
