Women's Basketball Rolls to 100-64 Final Over Behrend in ECAC Quarterfinal

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team used a 30-6 second quarter to cruise to a 100-64 final over No. 9 seeded Penn State-Behrend in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) quarterfinal on Friday afternoon. 

The Cavaliers were paced offensively by junior Kate Lannon's 20 points. The forward finished an efficient 9-13 from the field, including 2-4 from down town, while adding six rebounds and four assists. Senior Meghan Matthews tallied a double double thanks to 18 points and 10 rebounds, while tallying a game high six rebounds. Junior Ashley Tutzauer chipped in 17 points, while classmate Lexi Edwards rounded out the Cavs in double figures with 16 points. 

As a team, the Blue and White shot a season best 58 percent from the floor, while limiting the Lions to 34 percent. The Cavs also finished with a 42-34 advantage on the glass. 

Behrend jumped out to a 15-9 lead as they drilled five consecutive three pointers, three coming from Caitlin Carnuche. The Lions pushed their lead to a game high 12 points at 25-13 following a layup from Kara Haslett. It was all Cabrini the rest of the way, however as the Cavs ended the quarter on an 11-4 run to trim their deficit to 29-25. 

The offensive rhythm continued into the second quarter for the Blue and White as they outscored the visitors 30-6 over the 10 minute period. Lannon and freshman Miranda Liebtag combined for 18 points, tallying 11 and seven points, respectively, on a combined 8-10 from the floor.

Cabrini would continue to add to their lead in the third and fourth quarter, posting 24 points in the third and 22 points in the fourth. A layup from rookie Ariana McGeary with 1:38 to play ballooned the Cav's lead to a game high 40 points. 

Carnuche led the visiting Lions with a game high 29 pints and six rebounds in 33 minutes. 

Following today's game, the Cavs will advance to Saturday's ECAC Semifinal where they'll face the winner of No. 4 seeded Stevenson and No. 5 Hunter. Tip off for tomorrow's semifinal is slated for 3pm. 

Quarterfinal No. 2: No. 4 Stevenson 91, No. 5 Hunter 68 (Box Score)
The Mustangs jumped out to 25-13 lead after the opening stanza and used a 20-6 second quarter run to seize control at the break with a 45-19 advantage. 

Hunter began to find their offensive stroke in the second half as they tallied 19 points and 30 points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively, but it would ultimately prove not enough as Stevenson would coast to a 91-68 final. 

Stevenson's Hannah Crist led the Mustangs with a team high 21 points. Teammate Olivia Coleman added 15 points and nine rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. 

The Hawks' Janine Conway netted a game high 22 points for the visitors, while Theresa Leung and Phoebe Valenton added 11 points each. 

The Mustangs will now advance to tomorrow's ECAC Semifinal where they'll face the Cavaliers at 3pm. 

Quarterifinal No. 3: No. RPI 98, No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy 84 (Box Score)
RPI used a 30-19 first quarter to jump out to a commanding lead over the visiting Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins. The Engineers added to their lead in the second and third stanza as they carried a 75-55 advantage into the final frame. 

Gwynedd responded in the fourth quarter as they netted 29 points, but it would prove too little, too late as RPI held on for the eventual 98-84 final. 

The Engineers' Celia Tomlinson tallied a game high 29 points on 13-19 from the field, while adding 18 rebounds. Heather Converse also tallied a double double for the No. 3 seeded Engineers with 10 points and 17 rebounds. 

In total, RPI outrebounded the Griffins 87-42, but committed a whopping 36 turnovers. 

Gwynedd was paced by Haley Crossley's 17 points and team high six rebounds. 

Following tonight's game, the Engineers will advance to Saturday's Semifinal round where they'll face the winner of Misericordia and Drew. 

Quarterfinal No. 4: No. 7 Drew 74, No. 2 Misericordia 65 (Box Score)
The Drew University Rangers topped the No. 2 seeded Misericordia Cougars in the day's only upset by way of a 74-65 final. 

Sekya Campbell paced the Ranger offense with a game high 20 points on finishing a perfect 8-8 from the field. Teammate Julia Ramos added 17 points, while Erin Frederick and Joey Meyers chipped in 11 points each to round out the Rangers in double figures. 

Jordan Barth, meanwhile, led the second seeded Cougars with 19 points and nine rebounds. Tessa Zamolyi added 13 points and six boards, while Melina Santacroce chipped in nine points. 

Following tonight's victory, the seventh seeded Rangers will face No. 3 RPI at 5:30pm on Saturday.
