STEVENSON, MD – The Cavaliers hit the road tonight for their final nonconference test of the season at Stevenson University. The clubs needed extra time but neither could game the upper hand, as the Cavaliers and Mustangs played to a 1-1 draw.
The home side opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute on a goal by Dylan Holy.
The Cavaliers responded eight minutes later, as sophomore
Nick LoBiondo notched his fourth marker of the campaign.
The game remained tied at 1-1 at the break, despite Stevenson owning a 10-4 advantage in shots and earning five corner kicks to three for the Blue and White.
Both teams pressed to gain an advantage on the scoreboard, but in the 79
th minute, a Stevenson red card would give the Cavaliers a man advantage.
Cabrini's pressure nearly paid off in the game's final minutes of regulation, as the side forced three corner kicks and three shots in the final four minutes of regulation. Two of those attempts came in the final 90 seconds but were thwarted by Stevenson goaltender Kristian Slaby.
The Blue and White converted several chances in the extra periods, creating three corner kicks and a pair of shots on target, but could not solve the home team's defense.
LoBiondo accounted for four if the Cavaliers' 13 shots on the night, while seniors
Tyler Jankowski and
Christian Rafter added two each. Sophomore goaltender
Griff Rogers added a season high six saves.
The Blue and White will now turn its full attention to Atlantic East Conference play, beginning with Tuesday's league opener against Centenary. The Cavaliers and Cyclones will meet at 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
