Men's Soccer Outruns the Pacers for 5th Straight Win

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team extended its win streak to five and took sole possession of first place in the Atlantic East Conference table tonight, with a 2-1 victory at Marywood University.

The Cavaliers improved to 10-4-2 overall and 5-0 in league play with just one conference match remaining.

The Blue and White broke open a scoreless tie in the 39th minute, when senior Christian Rafter's direct kick service found junior Matt Kekatos for his first career marker.

Despite outshooting the Pacers 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes, the Cavaliers clung to a slim 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Cabrini seized control of the action in the second half, recording 11 shots and six corner kicks, while holding the home side without an attempt at goal until the 79th minute.

The Cavaliers' pressure paid dividends in the 72nd minute, when senor Dakota Bauer's service into the Marywood penalty area found the head of classmate Josh Cunningham. The eventual game-winning tally marked the first of the senior's season.

The Blue and White then turned to its defense to try to seal its third clean sheet of the season, but an 87th minute direct kick found the back of the net.

The Cavaliers closed the night with 20 shots, just one off their season high, as Kekatos and classmate Matt Duddy recording four each, one more than sophomore Nick LoBiondo.

Cabrini's sophomore goaltender MJ Graham stayed hot, improving to 7-0 on the season after making one save.

Chris Valdes led the Pacers with three shots, including their 87th minute goal, while goaltender Niko Leibkuchler posted seven saves in the losing effort.   

The Cavaliers have a few days to enjoy tonight's road win before closing the regular season at home on Wednesday night. Cabrini will celebrate Senior Night with a visit from Marymount University, who closed today's action 1.5 games behind the Cavaliers in the conference standings. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
