RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's soccer team played an extra 20 minutes of action tonight, but it was not enough, as the Cavaliers and the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders played to a 1-1 tie in the team's final non-conference matchup.
With the draw, the Cavaliers have a three-game unbeaten streak, 0-2-1, and moved to 4-4-2 on the season, while Rutgers-Newark went to 7-2-2.
In the first half, the visitors outshot the Blue and White 3-1, with two shots on frame, while the Cavs held a 2-1 advantage in corner opportunities, but neither team was able to find the twine as the teams went into the break with a scoreless game.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, Bailey Kellenberger setup Tamia Howell inside the box to get Rutgers-Newark on the board, 1-nil.
Only six minutes later
Jess Ruk responded for the Cavs as she tapped in a
Kelly Kane rebound to tie the game at one a piece.
Anna Bond had a golden opportunity to put the home team ahead in the final 10 seconds of regulation but Rutgers keeper Gillian Reese made the critical save to send the teams into overtime.
The Cavs were outshot 2-0 over the 20 minutes of extra time but graduate student
Ashley Tutzauer made two of her game-high seven saves in double-overtime to keep the game tied.
Cabrini finished the contest with five shots to 10 for the Scarlet Raiders, five Cavaliers were credited with a single shot, three of which, Ruk, Bond, and
Brianna Blair all put one on net.
The Cavaliers will open up conference play at home this Saturday, when they host the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
