Big Second Half Propels Cavs Past Griffins in Conference Opener

RADNOR, PA – Graduate student Maria Hagan scored a natural-hat trick in a span of just 11 minutes en route to a 4-0 Cabrini women's soccer victory in their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) opener today against Gwynedd Mercy University.

The Blue and White had their way on offense as they tallied a 26-11 advantage in shots, including a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal, while also finishing with a 10-0 advantage in corners.

After a scoreless first half, Hagan got the home team on the board with a goal in the 64th minute assisted by Ella Marrollo. Just over five minutes later Hagan and Marrollo teamed up again to net Hagan's second of the game. Hagan completed the hat trick on a penalty kick goal in the 75th minute and is now tied with fellow graduate student Brianna Blair with four goals on the year.

Sophomore Maggie McCay rounded out the scoring in the 87th minute with her first-career goal, assisted by a long pass from keeper Ashley Tutzauer.

Cabrini's defense would hold the Griffins without a shot the rest of the way en route to the 4-0 final.

With two assists in today's game, Marrollo is now tied for first in the AEC with five assists this season. On the backend, Cavaliers goalkeeper Tutzauer and the defensive unit earned the fourth shutout of the season.

Following today's action, Cabrini improves to 5-4-2 overall and 1-0 in AEC play. They will next face Immaculata University on Wednesday, October 13th at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 7pm.
