UNION, NJ - The Cabrini University women's basketball team got back into the win column with their second victory of the season as they upended the Kean University Cougars by a 64-49 final.
The Cougars, who entered the game sporting a 1-3 overall record, struggled to handle the Cavaliers' stingy defense as they were limited to just 24.6 percent from the floor. The second quarter highlighted the Cougars' struggles as they connected on just 3 of 14 field goal attempts.

Miranda Liebtag led the team with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists in 27 minutes, while classmate
Ashley Tutzauer returned from her one-game absence to post 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Senior
Dani Tyrell and juior
Kai Williams rounded out the balanced attack with eight points apiece.
Kean's opened up five point lead early in the first quarter highlighted by a trey form Shannon McCoy, 7-2. The Blue and White responded with 9-0 run in just over two minutes of play, started by a Liebtag shot from beyond the arc, to take their first lead of the game, 11-7. The Cavs maintained the four-point lead as both team traded a pair of baskets to close out the first quarter, 15-11.
Dani Tyrell hit back-to-back three pointers to open the second frame and give Cabrini its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 21-11. McCoy responded for the home team as she notched six of the Cougars next nine points with a pair of treys but the Cavs continued to press with a six point advantage and just over four minutes remaining in the half, 26-20. Cabrini went on a 12-0 run, emphasized by a pair of layups from
Kai Williams and three pointers from Fenstermacher and
Leila Collazo, to close out the first half and take a commanding 38-20 advantage into the break.
The Cougars refused to back down in the second half as both teams went toe-to-toe with each dropping 14 points. Tutzauer collected eight of her 10 points in the third frame as she shot 3-for-6 from the field in the quarter, 54-34.
The Cavs opened the final quarter on a 6-1 run for a 23 point lead, their largest margin of the game, 58-35. Kean outscored Cabrini 14-6 down the stretch but it was too little and too late as the Cavaliers walked away with a convincing 64-49 victory.
McCoy led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double in a game-high 40 minutes of play for the Cougars. Kayla Anderson also added 10 boards in the loss.
Following today's game, the Cavs improve to 2-1 overall. They will look to stay hot on the road as they travel to Albright College on November 18th. The Cavs tip off action against the Lions at 7PM in Reading, PA.
