Men's Basketball Falls in Battle for Eagle Road

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team saw its three game win streak come to an end tonight, as the Cavaliers lost to Eastern University 81-61 in the 2021 edition of the Battle for Eagle Road.

Freshman Aquil Stewart led the Blue and White (3-2) with 13 points, while junior Ryan Byars paired 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Brice Parks chipped in with 10 points.

Cabrini never found its offensive rhythm and the Eagles took advantage from the game's opening minute. The visitors scored the game's first seven points and never looked back.

The Cavaliers pulled within 20-17 at the 6:52 mark on a lay-up by freshman Denzel Atkinson-Boyer, but Eastern responded with a 7-0 spurt, pushing its lead to 10 point with just under six minutes to play in the stanza.

Despite shooting .423 from the field and holding the visitors to just .333 shooting, the Cavaliers found themselves down 34-27 at the half. Eastern's control of the offensive glass and Cabrini's 15 first half turnovers proved to be an issue, as the combination allowed the Eagles to attempt 36 field goals, 10 more than Cabrini.

Cabrini looked to replicate its second half magic from Tuesday's win over Elizabethtown, but Eastern scored the first four points of the second half to re-establish its double digit lead.

The Cavaliers pulled to within six points twice in the second half, with the final coming on a pair of free throws by senior Billy Warren with 13:42 to play, but the Blue and White could get no closer.

Similar to the first half, the Cavaliers connected on 14-28 from the field in the second half, but 10 Cabrini turnovers led to 13 Eastern points, while the Blue and White committed 14 second half fouls, sending the visitors to the charity stripe 19 times after the break.

While Cabrini shot .463 for the game, its second highest percentage of the season, it made just 2-10 from three point range and 9-16 from the free throw line proved to be season lows. Its 25 turnovers also marked a season high.

Sophomore Keashawn Ward led the Eagles (3-2) with 18 points.

The Cavaliers will look to return to the win column on Saturday, when they play host to Arcadia University (0-5). Game time is set for 1pm inside Nerney Field House.
