Volleyball Secures Spot in Atlantic East Final after Marywood Victory

RADNOR, PA – After falling short of the final in 2019, the Cabrini volleyball team will return to Saturday's championship round after tonight's 3-0 victory over Marywood in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament semifinal round.

The top seeded Blue and White will play host to number two seed Marymount in Saturday's championship, set to get underway at 4pm inside Nerney Field House.

Cabrini's 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 victory sets up a rematch of the 2018 final, as the Saints scored a 3-0 win over number three seed Neumann in tonight's other tournament semifinal.

The Cavaliers earned the right to host the final after scoring a thrilling 3-2 (25-18, 7-25, 28-30, 25-17, 15-13) win at Marymount in the teams' regular season meeting on Oct. 27.

Freshman Sam Heenan led the Blue and White tonight with 16 kills and 10 digs, while senior Hannah Dalton added 13 kill and 14 digs. Classmate Victoria Camacho added nine kills in the win.

Sophomore Melanie Cotes-Rivera matched Heenan and Dalton, pairing 18 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season.

Senior Lexi Conte recorded a team high 20 assists, while classmate Gina Custer's 16 digs were good for match high honors.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before extending their cushion to 13-5. Cabrini never allowed the Pacers to find any rhythm, as the home side cruised to a first set victory.

The Blue and White scored the first five points of the second set, but Marywood climbed back into the match. The visitors pulled to within 12-10, but the Cavaliers responded with an 8-2 run, establishing a commanding 20-12 lead and eventually a two sets to none advantage.

The Pacers took the court for third set determined to continue their season and it showed on the scoreboard. Marywood built a slim lead midway through the stanza, leading by as many as three points at 14-11, before Cabrini rallied with four unanswered points.

With the score tied at 19, Cabrini regained control of the action. A Marywood attack error and Heenan kill put the Blue and Whit ahead 21-19. Following a Cabrini service error, the Cavaliers rode kills by Camacho and Heenan to put an end to the night's action.

Marywood rolled to its 25-23, 25-13, 25-13 win over Neumann on the strength of a .258 hitting percentage, nine aces and five total blocks.

Kaitlyn Doyle led the attack with 11 kills, three more than Elissa Munsterman, while the duo combined for five aces and 15 digs. Sydney Sands paired 31 assists, eight digs and four aces, while Caylee Shelton notched 14 digs.
