RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball scored a season high 90 points today, but it wasn't enough, as the Cavaliers suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, a 106-90 loss to Lancaster Bible College today at Nerney Field House.
Junior
Christian Lane etched his name in the Blue and White record book in the losing effort, as the junior drained 11-15 from three point range, en route to a career high 38 point. Lane's 11 triples broke Glen Washington's program record of nine, set in 2009, and are tied for third most in Div. III this season.
Sophomore
Aquil Stewart added his first career double-double, pairing 13 points and 11 assists, while classmate
Josh Jones added 13 points and six rebounds. Fellow sophomore
Milton Robinson added a career best 10 points in just eight minutes off the Cabrini bench.
The Cavaliers scored the game's first three points, but the Chargers responded with a 16-3 spurt and never looked back. Despite regaining a slim 21-20 lead on a Lane triple at the 11:32 mark, the visitors never relinquished control of the scoreboard.
A Stewart jumper pulled the Blue and White to within 42-38 after a Stewart jumper with 2:31 left in the first half, but LBC outscored Cabrini 8-1 over the final 94 seconds of the stanza. A jumper by LBC senior Jordan Shewbridge at the buzzer sent the Chargers into the halftime break with a 55-42 lead.
The Cavaliers shot a blistering .667 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and rode Lane's 22 first half points, but Cabrini could not overcome 15 turnovers which led to 21 LBC points.
Cabrini continued its hot shooting touch in the second half, connecting on 20-33 from the floor, including 7-14 from deep, but could not slice into its halftime deficit, as the Chargers' lead remained in double figures throughout the second half.
The Cavaliers finished the game with a season high .630 field goal percentage and 34 made field goals, including a season best 14 three pointers, but their 8-25 performance at the free throw line, 30 rebounds and 25 turnovers marked some its worst stat lines of the campaign.
Shewbridge scored 36 points to lead five Chargers in double figure scoring, while junior Adam Stoltzfus paired 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
The Cavaliers will have to sit with today's result for nine days before returning to action on Dec. 20, when they travel to the University of Scranton. Tip off is scheduled for 2pm.
