No. 4 Cavaliers Ground the Red Hawks 14-6

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Cavaliers held Montclair State to just three goals over the first 45 minutes of action, as the No. 4 Cabrini men's lacrosse team rolled to a 14-6 victory over the host Red Hawks.

Senior Ty Kostack scored four goals to lead with Cabrini goal scorers, while classmate Mike Gerzabek paired three goals and an assist. Freshman Dan Bennett also added his first two career goals in the win.

Senior Drew Supinski notched a game-high five points on the day, pairing a marker and four assists with two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Junior Kyle Tucker matched a career best with three assists.

Freshman goaltender Matt Sageder anchored the Blue and White defensive effort with seven saves and three ground balls. Sophomore Zach Kaut matched Supinski with two caused turnovers, while senior Tommy DeLuca and sophomore Seamus Hogan secured five ground balls each.

The Cavaliers wasted little time gaining control of the scoreboard, as Kostack and Gerzabek marked the scoring column in the game's opening three minutes. The home side recorded their first goal of the game, but sophomore Jake Huey win the ensuing faceoff and notched his first goal of the season.

Late goals by seniors Jake Klein and Matt LoParo extended the Cavaliers' lead to a comfortable 5-1 after the opening 15 minute period.

Leading 6-2 in the final minutes of the second quarter, the Blue and White put some distance between itself and its host with three goals in less than two minutes. Goals by Kostack, Supinski and Bennett helped the Cavaliers extend their lead to 9-2 at the half.

Cabrini stayed hot into the third quarter, scoring the first four goals of the stanza to build a commanding 13-2 advantage with just minutes to play in the third.

The Blue and White reeled off 58 shots on the day, while holding the Red Hawks to five or less in each of the first three quarters. Kostack and Gerzabek accounted for 22 of those shots with Supinski firing nine.

Junior goalkeeper Matthew McLaren kept Montclair State (0-2) in the game with a career best 23 saves, while sophomores Tyler McCreery and Christian Boyle combined for three goals.  

The Cavaliers (2-0) will travel south on Friday , as they look for a second consecutive victory at No. 5 Salisbury (1-1). The opening faceoff is slated for 4pm at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.
