Diamond Cavs Drop Nonconference Tilt Against Nittany Lions

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team dropped a nonconference matchup this afternoon against the visiting Penn State Abington Nittany Lions by way of a 15-8 final.

The visitors marked the scoring column in six of eight innings (game called early due to darkness) and posted 14 hits.

Senior Alex Pierznik was saddled with the loss after allowing five earned on two hits in 2.1 innings. The veteran battled a tight strike zone to the tune of six walks.

Offensively, the Blue and White were led by seniors Mack McKisson and Gilbert Peralta. McKisson finished the day 2-3 with a double and two RBI's, while Peralta led the drove in a game high four RBI's and launched his first home run of the season.

Senior Sean Bernardo and freshman Jon Sepe added two hits and two runs a piece.

After trading runs in the first, Abington jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the third inning as they took advantage of five walks and an error. Ryan McArty put the exclamation point on the inning for the Nittany Lions as he connected for a two run homer to left center.

Abington would go on to add nine more runs across the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings as they stymied any Cavs comeback attempt.

Gilbert Peralta would highlight the Cavs remaining offensive output thanks to his aforementioned three run home run to left center.

Michael Keith would go on to collect the victory for PSU, his first of the season, after coming on in relief of starter Darrien Mogel.

Following today's game, the Blue and White move to 2-3 overall. They will look to even their record when they next face No. 9 Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ on Wednesday, March 17th. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
