GLASSBORO, NJ - The Diamond Cavs upset bid against No. 9 Rowan University fell short this afternoon as the Profs edged the visiting Cavaliers by way of a 6-1 final.
Freshman
Brandon Harris toed the rubber for the Blue and White and turned in a strong performance, despite ultimately being saddled with the loss. The rookie allowed two earned and six hits in five innings of work, while striking out two and walking one. Seniors
Drew Swire and
Nicholas Gares, along with freshman John Robers combined for the remaining three innings.
Rowan's Drew Ryback collected the victory as he managed to keep the Cavaliers' offense at bay. Ryback allowed just two hits in seven innings, while tallying nine punchouts.
Offensively, senior
Steven Priest led the way with a pair of hits and the Cavs' lone RBI, coming via a single up the middle in the top of the ninth. Seniors
Sean Bernardo and
Gilbert Peralta, along with sophomore
Christian Strickland, rounded out the Cavaliers to mark the hit column.
Rowan's Trip McCaffrey paced the hosts, courtesy of a three hit day and driving in a game high two RBIs.
The Blue and White will now face a nine day layoff before they next travel to Immaculata, PA to face the Mighty Macs on March 26th. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
