RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team opened its Atlantic East Conference slate with a convincing 15-3 win over Gwynedd Mercy, improving the club to 1-2 overall.
Sophomore
Dana Carlson led the Blue and White with seven points on the day, pairing three goals and four assists. Junior
Olivia Little added three markers and three helpers, while freshman
Olivia Pace recorded a game-high four goals.
Sophomore
Shea Neary anchored the defensive effort with four ground balls and four caused turnovers, while junior
Ashley Tutzauer forced three Griffins miscued, one more than freshmen
Alyssa Kolasa and
Victoria Zielke.
Sophomore netminder
Sam Hamalak notched a pair of saves and was one of 12 Cavaliers to record a ground ball to earn the victory. Freshman goaltender
Abbey Fenton posted four saves in her collegiate debut.
The Cavaliers showed no ill effects after not playing for 15 days, as junior
Taylor Dimmerling put Cabrini ahead 40 seconds into the action. Pace and Carlson added to the lead before the Griffins opened their scoring three minutes after the opening whistle.
The Blue and White regained control of the action, reeling off 11 unanswered tallies before carrying a commanding 14-1 lead into the halftime break.
Cabrini dominated the opening 30 minute period, out shooting the visitors 22-4 and pressuring Gwynedd Mercy into 15 turnovers and just 2-5 in clear attempts.
On the day, seven Cavaliers marked the scoring column, including freshman
Morgan Fazzini and sophomore
Kelly Sweeney who recorded their first goals of the season.
Graduate student Victoria Mollitor scored twice for the Griffins (0-2, 0-2 Atlantic East) and joined sophomore Damali Teagle with six draw controls. Sophomore goaltender Reilly Owens posted 11 saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers are slated to return to action on Thursday, when visit Neumann in a rescheduled contest. The opening draw is scheduled for 7pm.
