Women's Lacrosse Can't Tame #11 TCNJ

EWING, NJ – The Cavaliers faced a tough task as they looked for their first win of the season. Standing between the Blue and White and victory was the No. 11 TCNJ Lions. After a tightly contested first half, the home side pulled away after the break, downing Cabrini 18-4.

Sophomore Olivia Little led the Cavaliers with two goals and an assist, while junior Kathleen Emche and freshman Olivia Pace joined Little on the score sheet.

Sophomore goaltender Sam Hamalak notched 14 saves and a game-high seven ground balls in the loss. Freshman Caroline Gallagher tallied a pair of caused turnovers, while sophomore Shea Neary scooped three ground balls.

The Lions built an early cushion, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Pace put the Cavaliers on the board at the 24:26 mark, as the rookie converted a Little pass for the score. Following another TCNJ goal, Little 's unassisted marker pulled Cabrini back to within two goals.

Late in the opening stanza, TCNJ posted three consecutive goals to extend their lead to 7-2 with just under three minutes left in the half. The Blue and White gained some late momentum, as Little netted her second goal of the day, followed by Emche's free position goal 45 seconds later.

Despite being outshot 21-13 in the first half and converting just 10 of 16 clear attempts, Cabrini kept the game close at the halftime break.

Unfortunately, the Blue and White could not carry its mojo into the second half, as it recorded just five shots and secured just three of 11 draws after the break. Meanwhile, TCNJ rattled off 11 consecutive goals in the second half of its season opener.

Senior Erin Jaffe led the Lions with nine points, while junior Jennifer LaRocca added seven points. Graduate student Ali Natalicchio added seven saves to earn the victory.

The Cavaliers will return to the familiar surroundings of Edith Robb Dixon Field on Thursday, as they seek their first victory. Cabrini will host to Montclair State, with the opening draw slated for 6:30pm.
