Baker Goes the Distance as Cavs Run Win Streak to Five

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team cruised to their fifth consecutive victory this afternoon thanks to a pair dominant performances from junior Jonathan Baker and senior Mack McKisson

The former tossed his second complete game of the season, this one of the nine inning variety, for his team leading fourth win of the season. The Cavaliers' ace scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned, while striking out three. He induced a season high 15 ground ball outs, and at one time retired 14 consecutive batters.

McKisson meanwhile, turned in a career performance with seven RBIs, including his 100th career RBI. The veteran highlighted his record breaking feat with a fourth inning grand slam to put him over the century mark. He added a double and a run scored to round out his day

Classmate Brendan Van Belle finished 3-5, including his first triple of the season, while junior Garrett Laraia and sophomores Christian Strickland and Earl Kochel IV added two hits a piece. In total, the Cavaliers banged out 15 hits with eight different Cavs marking the hit column.

Strickland, along with seniors Sean Bernardo, Gilbert Peralta and Justin Henry drove in one RBI each.

The Wolverines opened the scoring in the top of the first as they used a bit of small ball and took advantage of a rare walk from Baker. Drew Sutton drove home teammate Sam Courtney to hand the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.

The Blue and White would quickly erase their deficit as Laraia opened the bottom half of the inning with a double to left field. Following a single and stolen base from Van Belle, the Cavs had runners on second and third with nobody out and McKisson at the dish. The senior delivered with a double down the left field line to plate both runners and put the Cavs up 2-1. Wesley's Justin Golden induced pair of fly ball outs and got Strickland swinging to end the threat.

Cabrini would break the game open in the bottom of the fourth with a seven run inning. Peralta led things off and reached base following an error by the Wolverines' left fielder, while Kochel put runners on first and second courtesy of a single through the left side. Henry plated Peralta with a single to center, while Laraia loaded the bases with a single of his own. Two batters later, McKisson delivered the big blow with his aforementioned first home run of the season to straight away center field to put the Cavs up 7-1. They would add two more runs in the inning courtesy of a double and sac fly from Bernardo and Peralta, respectively.

The Diamond Cavs would go on to add a lone run in both the fifth and eighth inning for the eventual 11-1 final. Strickland highlighted the remaining action with his fifth long ball of the season.

Golden was saddled with the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) in 3.1 innings.

Following today's game, the Cavs improve to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in Atlantic East Conference play. They will look to win the series against Wesley when they travel to Dover, DE tomorrow for a double header. Game one is slated to begin at 12pm.
