RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini softball team suffered its first sweep of the season today, as the Cavaliers lost to the visiting Wesley Wolverines 3-1 and 15-7 at Cabrini Field.
The losses dropped the Cavaliers to 11-3 in the Atlantic East on the season.
In the opener, seniors
Angel Cintron and
Amber Seamen added their names to the program's history book, as both recorded their 100th career base hits.
Game 1: Wesley 3, Cabrini 1
Seamen wasted little time in getting to the century mark, as the junior singled to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning.
The Wolverines opened the scoring in the top of the second, as Miranda Kinney blasted a two run homer o left centerfield.
Cintron reached the century mark in the third with a two out double to right field before scoring on a single by freshman
Madison Gugel.
The Cavaliers mustered just one more base runner of the game's final three innings, as Wesley hurler Dori Loukopoulos allowed just four hits with nine strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win
Avery Byrnes suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Game 2: Wesley 15, Cabrini 7
The Cavaliers looked to regroup in the night cap and built an early lead. Cintron opened the game with a triple before scoring on a Wesley throwing error.
Cabrini padded its lead in the second, as the first four batters reached base before Cintron's bases loaded double plated all three runners for a 4-0 lead.
Unfortunately, the home side could not hold on to the lead, as Wesley responded with eight runs on nine hits in the top of the fourth.
Cabrini got one run back in the third, as junior
Casey Scheuren's single scored sophomore
Allison Martin, but, again, the Wolverines had an answer adding two more runs in the fourth.
The visitors pushed their lead to 15-5 in the fifth, as they took advantage of a Cabrini error and a grand slam.
Cabrini looked to keep the game going in the fifth, as freshman
Samantha Kilson's single scored sophomore
Emily Wargo and Martin. But with two one and just one out, the Cavaliers could not drive in the run to continue the game.
Cintron, Wargo and Scheuren accounted for three of Cabrini's six hit in the nightcap, with Cintron driving in three runs. Sophomore pitcher
Grace Stairiker suffered the loss after surrendering seven earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The Cavaliers have little time to regroup, as they will head to Dover, DE on Sunday to face these same Wolverines. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
