IMMACULATA, PA - The Cabrini baseball team fell by an 8-3 final this afternoon to conference foe Immaculata University in a battle of the league's top teams.
Despite only allowing four hits, senior
Nicholas Gares was saddled with the loss for the Blue and White after allowing six runs (four earned) in seven innings of work.
Offensively, the Cavs were led by seniors Brendan Van Bell,
Steven Priest and
Gilbert Peralta who tallied a hit and an RBI each. Peralta highlighted the group with his fifth long ball of the season, brining him even with sophomore
Christian Strickland for the team lead. Fellow senior
Justin Henry added a pair of hits, including his third double of the season.
Immaculata jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Cavs got two back in the insuing frame. An RBI single to center from Van Belle plated sophomore
Earl Kochel IV for the Cavs' first run, while Priest followed with a sac fly to right to make it 4-2.
Cabrini pushed across their third run of the game in the seventh, courtesy of a leadoff homer from Peralta, but a pair of pitching changes in the inning helped quite the Cavs comeback attempt and keep the score at 4-3.
The hosts responded in the bottom of the eighth with a four run inning to coast to the eventual 8-3 final.
Mason Keller would be credited with the win for Immaculata after allowing three runs in six innings, while Ryan Crowell picked up his second save of the season.
Following today's game, the Cavs move to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play. They will look to get back in the win column on Friday, April 23 when they travel to Aston, PA to take on Neumann University for a three game weekend series.
