RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team collected the series sweep over the visiting Neumann University Knights this afternoon after collecting a 7-4 victory in game one and an 8-0 victory in game two.Ā
Game One: Cabrini 7, Neumann 4
The Blue and White opened their double dip with a 7-4 victory in game one that featured some timely hits in the fifth and sixth innings.Ā
Offensively, the Cavaliers were led the senior trio of
Mack McKisson,
Steven Priest and
Gilbert Peralta. All three tallied a pair of RBIs, with McKisson highlighting the bunch thanks to a triad of hits, including his eighth double of the year. Sophomore
Shane Chavez-ZottnickĀ matched McKisson'sĀ three hits, while adding a pair of runs scored and an RBI.Ā
Junior
Garrett LaraiaĀ (2-3, 3R)Ā and senior
Justin Henry (1-3) rounded out the Cavs to mark the hit column.Ā
Newcomer
Brandon Harris toed the rubber for the Cavs and allowed three runs on five hits in three innings of work, while adding four strikeouts.
Joey Moyer and
Mack McKisson combined for four innings of relief, allowing just six hits and one run. McKisson, making his collegiate pitching debut, collected the save.Ā
The Cavs opened the game with a pair of runs thanks to an RBI fielders choice from Priest and an RBI single to right from Peralta. They added another run in the second to push their lead to 3-0 following an RBI single from McKisson.Ā
Neumann would even things at three a piece in the third, highlighted by a two run home run to center from Cris Diaz.Ā
The Blue and White would pick up some clutch hits in the fifth and sixth innings as they plated a pair of runs in each frame. Priest and PeraltaĀ used a pair of sac flies in the fifth, while Chavez-Zottnick and McKissonĀ used back-to-back singles to center in the sixth.Ā
Neumann's Will Hart was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs in 5.2 innings.Ā
Game Two: Cabrini 8, Neumann 0
Senior
Mike ValerioĀ (9IP, 3H, 1BB, 9K) was the star of the nightcap as the veteran tossed his first career complete game shutout in the Blue and White. The Brick, NJ native allowed just four over the minimum and needed only 102 pitches to pick up his second win on the year. Over his last two outings, ValerioĀ has allowed just six hits and one run across 17 innings, while striking out 15.Ā
Five different Cavaliers tallied a pair of hits with Priest and Peralta highlighting the bunch. Priest led the offense with three RBIs, while PeraltaĀ (1RBI) connected for his second and third double of the season. Chavez-Zottnick (1RBI), Laraia (2R), and McKisson (3R) rounded out the Cavs with two hits.Ā
The Diamond Cavs took control early as they pushed across six runs in the first two frames. A two RBI single to right from Priest opened the scoring, while sophomore
Christian Strickland and senior
Brendan Van Belle added RBI singles.Ā
Cabrini added single runs in the third and fourth innings to pad their lead.Ā
Neumann's Billy Hunt dropped to 0-4 on the year after allowing eight runs on 12 hits in four innings.Ā
Following today's games, the Cavaliers improve to 11-6 overall and 9-2 in Atlantic East Conference play. They will look to run their win streak to four games when they next host Marymount University on Friday, May 7th. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.Ā
