RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team completed a series sweep of the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins following a pair of wins this afternoon.
Game One: Cabrini 15, Gwynedd 7
The Cavs pushed across eight runs in the first to jump out to a comfortable lead and added three more runs in the second to make it an 11-2 advantage.
The Griffins plated single runs in the third and fourth to trim their deficit to 11-4, but the Cavs answered with four more runs in the fifth to take away any hopes of a comeback.
Senior
Gilbert Peralta paced the offense with a game high three RBIs and his team leading sixth home run of the season; a towering long shot to straight away center field. Classmates Brendan Van Bell,
Mack McKisson and
Sean Bernardo added a pair of RBIs each, as did freshman
Jon Sepe. McKisson and Bernardo led the bunch with a pair of hits, including a double each. In total, seven of the Cavs' 11 hits were of the extra base variety.
Freshman
Domenic Marotta collected his first win of the season after tossing three innings and allowing three earned, while striking out three. Fellow rookie
Neil Squillante closed things out with four innings of four run ball.
Opposite of Marotta, Gwynedd's Pat Hasson was saddled with the loss after surrendering eight walks and eight earned in just 0.2 of an inning.
Game Two: Cabrini 16, Gwynedd Mercy 7
Cabrini picked up where they left off in game two as they used a big first inning to seize control early. A 10 run first inning highlighted the offensive outburst as they sent 15 men to the plate and totaled seven hits, including a grand slam from Priest.
The Blue and White added a run in the second and four runs in the third to balloon their lead to 15-0. Gwynedd would strike for three runs in the eight and ninth for the eventual 16-7 final.
As mentioned, Priest led the offense with a pair of hits and five RBIs, including his aforementioned first inning grand slam. Van Belle, McKisson and senior
Justin Henry added two RBIs each. Van Belle, Priest and Bernardo led the offense with two hits a piece. In total, 29 different Cavaliers saw action in game two.
Senior
Mike Valerio (1IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB) picked up his third win of the season after coming on in relief of freshman
John Roberts (3IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB) who faced just two over the minimum across three innings of work.
Gwynedd's Billy Collins collected the loss after allowing 10 runs on seven hits, including five walks, in just 0.2 of an inning.
Following today's double dip, the Cavs improve to 13-6 overall and 11-2 in Atlantic East play. They will return to the diamond on Friday, May 7th when they host Marymount University at 3:30pm.
