SCRANTON, PA - The Cabrini baseball team collected a pair of victories this afternoon courtesy of a 10-7 and 15-11 final to earn the series sweep over the Marywood Pacers.
Game One: Cabrini 10, Marywood 7
The Cavalier offense continued their searing hot start to the season with 10 runs on 10 hits, highlighted by a fourth run second inning to seize control early.
Seniors
Steven Priest and
Mack McKisson, along with sophomore
Earl Kochel IV, paced the offense as each tallied two hits a piece, with the former driving in two runs and smacking his fifth double of the season. McKisson also became the first Cavalier in program history to score 100 career runs after touching home three times in game one.
Sophomore
Christian Strickland tallied a game high three RBIs, while junior
Gilbert Peralta and freshman
Allen Yager each swiped a base.
Fellow Freshman
Brandon Harris earned the nod on the mound and allowed four runs on four hits across four innings. Classmate
John Roberts and junior
Joey Moyer combined for the remaining three innings of work, with Moyer collecting his second save of the season.
Marywoods TJ Lacey was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits in three innings.
As mentioned, the Cavs highlighted their offensive efforts with a four run second inning. Strickland delivered the big blow with a two RBI single to center.
Game Two: Cabrini 15, Marywood 11
The offense stayed hot in game two after posting 15 runs on a season high 21 hits. All nine starters marked the hit column, with six Cavs posting a multi-hit game.
Gilbert Peralta led the bunch with four hits, three runs, and a game high five RBIs. The junior also connected for his second and third home runs of the season.
McKisson matched the aforementioned Peralta with four hits, including his third double of the season, while also scoring three runs and driving in a pair of RBIs.
Junior
Nicholas Gares earned his second victory of the season after turning in a strong six innings of work. The veteran scattered seven hits, allowed four runs (two earned) and struck out a season high seven batters. Freshman
Domenic Marotta picked up his first career save after throwing a clean 2.1 innings.
The Blue and White pushed across runs in six of the first seven frames as they coasted to a comfortable 13-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Pacers would respond, however with a seven run inning to trim the Cavs' lead to just two runs at 13-11.
McKisson and junior
Sean Bernardo gave the Cavs some breathing room in the ensuing frame as each drove in a run to extend the Cavs lead to the eventual 15-11 final.
Over the three game series, the Cavs' offense totaled 41 runs, good enough for an average of 13.6 runs per game.
Following today's double header, the Blue and White improve to 5-4 overall. They will look to run their win streak to four games when they travel to Gwynedd Valley, PA on Friday, April 9th to kick off a three game series against the Griffins. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
