GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - The Cabrini baseball team nearly tied the program record for runs in a game as they erupted for a lopsided 28-13 victory over the hosting Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins this afternoon.
The Cavalier offense touched home in seven of nine frames, while every starter tallied at least one base hit. Cabrini also set a new season high with 25 hits, while the pitching staff recorded their second game of the season in which they did not issue a walk.
Sophomore
Earl Kochel IV paced the offense as he marked the hit column a season high four times, including two doubles and a triple, as well as tallying a career best seven RBIs. Senior
Steven Priest, fresh off being named the AEC Player of the Week, continued his hot stretch as he paired three hits, highlighted by his first triple of the season, with six RBIs.
Classmate
Mack McKisson added a pair of hits, three runs scored and four RBIs, while junior
Garrett Laraia and freshman
Jake Eagle chipped in three RBIs each.
Junior
Jonathan Baker collected his team leading third victory of the season thanks to seven strong innings. The Cavs ace scattered eight hits and allowed two earned, while striking out four and not surrendering a walk. Baker now sports a tidy 22/4 strikeout to walk ratio across a team leading 24.1 innings.
Opposite of Baker, the Griffins used eight total pitchers with starter Billy Collins (1.1 IP, 3H, 5R, 4ER, 2BB, 2K) being saddled with his first loss of the season.
Following today's convincing victory, the Cavalier offense has produced a conference best 106 runs, 69 of which have come in the last four games.
The Blue and White will look to stay hot and run their win streak to five games when they cap their three game series against the Griffins with a double dip on Saturday, April 10. Game one is set to begin at 12pm.
