IMMACULATA, PA – The Cabrini bats stayed hot today, as the Cavaliers recorded 23 hits en route to a pair of wins at Immaculata. The 5-3 and 12-9 victories improved the Blue and White to 6-0 in the Atlantic East Conference.
Game 1: Cabrini 5, Immaculata 3
The Mighty Macs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning and held their slim advantage until the top of the third.
Junior
Casey Scheuren opened the frame with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Cabrini evened the score one batter later, as Scheuren scored on a double by classmate
Angel Cintron. After a single by
Madison Gugel, an Immaculata error allowed Cintron to cross the plate.
Immaculata answered in the bottom of inning before Scheuren sparked another rally in the fourth with a two out double before scoring on a Cintron single.
The score remained deadlocked at 3-3 until the top of the sixth inning. Freshman
Emma Barbera led off the inning with a walk before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch. The rookie then scored on a bunt by sophomore
Kadirah Williams. Williams matriculated to third on Cintron's second double of the game and scored on a Gugel infield single.
Freshman
Avery Byrnes made the lead stand over the final two frames, keeping the Mighty Macs off the base paths and recording three of her nine strike outs.
Cintron led the Cavaliers, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's, while Cintron, Gugel and junior
Amber Seamen added two hits each.
Game 2: Cabrini 12, Immaculata 9
The Cavaliers continued their offense early in the first inning, as Cintron opened the game with a single before scoring on a Gugel double. Two batters later, the freshman scored on a Seamen sacrifice fly.
The lead was short lived, as Immculata responded with a two run home run in the bottom of the first. Cabrini regained its lead in the second, as Scheuren, who opened the inning with a single, scored on an Immaculata error.
The Blue and White extended its lead to 5-2 in the third, as Scheuren blasted her first round tripper of the season, a two run shot, scoring sophomore
Allison Martin. Immculata responded two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Cavaliers had an answer in the fourth.
Cabrini took advantage of two out Immaculata error to score three runs. With runners on second and third, sophomore
Kaitlyn Martin single to left, scoring Cintron and Barbera, but the Immaculata error allowed the sophomore to advance to third. Martin then scored on a triple by
Allison Martin.
A pair of sixth inning errors Immaculata errors allowed the Cavaliers to extend their lead to 10-5 before the Mighty Macs made their comeback. Immaculata took advantage of two Cabrini errors and three base knocks to plate four runs and pull to within 10-9 entering the seventh inning.
Cabrini cushioned its lead in the top of the seventh, as Barbera and Cintron opened the seventh with back to back singles. Both then crossed the plate as Gugel grounded out and Seamen singled up the middle.
The Cavaliers closed the door on the Mighty Macs in the bottom of the seventh, stranding runners on first and third to end the game.
Sophomore Grace Stariker earned her second win of the season, allowing nine hits over 4.1 innings. Byrnes tossed two scoreless innings to earn her first save. Six Cavaliers recorded two hits in the victory with four adding two RBI each.
The Cavaliers and Mighty Macs (1-5) have little time to regroup, as they will match wits again on Tuesday in another conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3pm at Cabrini Field.
