Women's Lacrosse Pushes Win Streak to 5 with Win at Marymount

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team moved one step closer to securing the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament today, as the Cavaliers scored a 21-15 win at Marymount University.

The Blue and White's fifth consecutive victory improved the club to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play with one league game remaining.

Freshman Olivia Pace led the Cabrini offense with a season best five goals, while sophomore Dana Carlson recorded a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Classmate Olivia Little matched Carlson with four goals to go with 11 draw controls and four ground balls.

Junior Taylor Dimmerling added five points in the win, tallying three goals and two dimes. Sophomore Shea Neary stuffed the stat sheet with three goals, a career high 16 draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore netminder Sam Hamalak was called on for three saves, while junior Ashley Tutzauer added two caused turnovers and two ground balls to the defensive effort.

The Blue and White jumped ahead early, as Little and Dimmerling netted unassisted goals in the opening two minutes.  Following the Saints' first tally, the Cavaliers extended their lead to 5-1, as Pace and Dimmerling combined for three goals in less than 60 seconds.

Goals by Neary, Pace and freshman Victoria Zielke pushed the cushion to 8-4 midway through the first half, when Marymount made its comeback. The Saints reeled off five unanswered goals to take a 9-8 lead with 6:41 left in the stanza.

Carlson put an end to the Marymount run, evening the score with five minute to play before the half, with Little giving the Cavaliers the lead for good with just 2:24 left in the first half.

Cabrini carried its momentum into the second half, posting the four consecutive goals to start the second half and building a 17-10 lead on Little's unassisted marker at the 17:14 mark.

Once again, the Saints had an answer. Marymount responded to the Cabrini spurt with four goals over the next five minutes to pull within 18-14 with just under nine minutes to play, but, again, it was a Carlson goal that stopped the spurt. The sophomore paired with Pace to score the next three goals, pushing Cabrini's lead to 21-14 in the final minute.

The Cavaliers attempted 38 shots, including 29 on target, forced 11 free position shots and committed just 12 turnovers, each among the team's best performances of the season, while its 28 draw controls mark the most since recording 32 in a loss to Haverford in March 2019, a string of 28 games.

Kaleigh Dunham led the Saints (4-3, 3-2 Atlantic East) with five goals and an assist, while a trio of Saints added two goals each. Goaltender Mariel Russ tallied eight save sin the loss.

The Blue and White have some time to enjoy today's victory as the Cavaliers will not return to action until Thursday, April 15, when they host Marywood University (2-1, 2-1 Atlantic East). Game time is set for 6:30pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
