Men's Soccer Comes Up Short in the Battle of Eagle Road

RADNOR, PA – In the Battle of Eagle Road the Cabrini men's soccer team's offense pressed in the final 22 minutes of regulation but the Cavaliers could not find the tying goal in a 3-2 loss versus Eastern University.

Cabrini's loss to its Eagle Road rivals dropped the club to 4-2-1 on the season, while the Eagles improved to a perfect 6-0.

The Cavaliers received a fortunate bounce four minutes into the first half as sophomore Nick LoBiondo's attempt to cross the ball deflected off of an Eagles defender and into the net, 1-0.

The Blue and White held onto the 1-0 lead for 38 minutes before Eastern knotted the game at one a piece on a Gabriel Velazquez shot. The Cavs were outshot 5-4 through the first 45 minutes of play despite holding an 8-0 advantage in corners.

Ten minutes into the second frame the Cavs were able to capitalize on a Jake Scully throw in which led to a scramble inside the box. Nick Booth fired a shot on net which was stopped by Eagles keeper, Diesel Fiore, before LoBiondo buried the rebound into the top right corner of the net, 2-1.

Less than 10 minutes after taking the lead the Eagles responded with back-to-back goals just two minutes and 15 seconds apart for the 3-2 advantage.

The Cavs continued to press over the final 22 minutes of play, outshooting the Eagles 7-5 over the course of the second half, but could not manage to find the back of the net.

Cabrini finished the game with 11 shots, including eight on target, and with 11 corner kicks.

Senior Tyler Jankowski led the Cavaliers with three shots, while senior Dakota Bauer and Matt Duddy each had two.

Cabrini will conclude its five game home stand on Wednesday, September 22nd versus Cairn University. The opening kickoff is slated for 4pm.
