ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Cavaliers and Eagles needed an extra 20 minutes of play today, but it was not enough to determine a winner, as Cabrini and Eastern played to a 2-2 tie in the Battle for Eagle Road.
With the draw, the Cavaliers continue looking for their first win of the season, moving to 0-1-1, while Eastern went to 1-1-1.
The Blue and White grabbed an early lead, as sophomore
Ella Marrollo found junior
Kelly Kane in the 13th minute for the junior's first marker of the season.
The Cavaliers doubled their lead in the 21st minute, when junior
Rebekah Cunningham connected with
Paige Bowman. The sophomore's first goal of the season gave Cabrini a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead midway through the first half.
The two goal cushion was short lived, as a Cabrini foul led to an Eastern penalty kick just 40 seconds later.
Despite outshooting the Eagle 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes of action, the Blue and White carried its slim 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
Both teams pressed throughout the second half, combining for 10 second half shot attempts. While Cabrini was looking to hold on for the win, Eastern made the most of an 89th minute chance, as Sydney Koncsol evened the score.
The home side made one final attempt in the final seconds of regulation, but graduate student
Ashley Tutzauer one of her four saves on the day to send the match to extra time.
The sides combined for five shots in the 20 minutes of extra time, but just two attempts were on target, as the game remained tied.
Cabrini finished the contest with 15 shots to nine for the Eagles, with Kane's three leading the way. Cunningham, Marrollo and senior
Madison Rooney added two each.
The Cavaliers will play the final of their four consecutive road games to begin the season on Saturday, when they visit Huntingdon, PA to face Juniata. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
