Women's Basketball Defeats Knights for Second Consecutive Win

Tutzauer and Rodriguez Combine for 27 Points in the Non-Conference Road Victory

GLENSIDE, PA – The Cabrini University women's basketball won consecutive games for the first time this season with a stellar 72-47 performance at Arcadia University this evening.

Two Cavaliers scored in double figures today, led by graduate student Ashley Tutzauer's game high 17 points in 22 minutes of action.

Sophomore Katie Rodriguez nearly recorded a double-double as she connected on 5-of-6 from the field, for ten points, and a team high nine rebounds. Rodriguez rounded out the day three blocks and a steal in 16 minutes of play off the bench.

The Knights Holly Daveski opened the game with a jumped within the first minute but the Cavaliers responded with a 12-4 spurt paced by three layups from Rodriguez. After a pair of Arcadia free throw attempts Giana Rullo collected a missed three point attempt at the other end of the court and hit jumped at the buzzer to take a 14-7 advantage into the second frame.

The Cavaliers continued to press in the second going on a 10-2 run over the first five minutes of the quarter, highlighted by a pair of back-to-back treys courtesy of Tutzauer and Abby Paolini to go up 24-9. Rodriguez added her fifth layup of the day in the waning second of the first half as the Cavaliers went into the break ahead 26-12.

The Blue and White finished the half shooting just a tick over .413, including 7-for-13 in the opening 10 minutes, compared to .172 (5-for-29) shooting for the home team. Cabrini overpowered Arcadia inside the paint, holding a 16-4 lead through two quarters.

Mara Weaver connected on a free throw attempt and a three pointer to pull the Knights back within 10 points in the opening two minutes of the second half, but another Tutzauer three pointer sparked an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach, 37-16. The teams combined for 15 points in the next two minutes as the Cavs narrowly outscored the Knights 8-7 before closing the quarter with a seven point run, kicked off by Tutzauer's third three pointer of the night, 51-24

Arcadia went on a 10-3 stretch in the first three minutes of the final quarter but its hopes of a comeback attempt were quickly squashed as Cabrini scored 10 of the next 11 to go ahead 62-34. Each team added six points in the final three plus minutes of play as the Cavs came away with the above-mentioned 72-47 triumph.

Cabrini is a perfect 4-0 when eclipsing the 70 point plateau this season. The Cavs finished the day shooting 10-for-12 from the charity line, it marked the second time this season the team has shot at least 80% from the line.

Weaver was the lone Knight to finish with double figures in points with 10. Julia Makowski had a game high 10 rebounds and chipped in three points.

The Blue and White will return home this Saturday for an Atlantic East Conference tilt versus Marywood University. Game time is scheduled for 1PM.
