Cavaliers roll past Marywood, advance to AEC Championship Semifinals

Radnor, PA. – The Cabrini University men's soccer team defeated the Marywood University Pacers 4-2 Saturday night in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic East Conference Championship tournament at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The Cavaliers (8-7-3) got on the board first in the 18' after Tyler Tomlin found the bottom of the Marywood net on a corner kick feed from Nick Booth to give Cabrini the early one-nil lead. Six minutes later, after a Pacers yellow card, Tyler Jankowski took the Cavs' free kick and sent it into the box where freshman Dominic Petruzzelli finished it between the uprights, extending Cabrini's lead to two-nil. Before the break, the Pacers (7-11) netted their first goal of the match on a penalty kick to cut the Cavaliers lead in half.

After the intermission, Cabrini wasted no time to make it a two-goal lead again as Nick Booth found the corner of the Marywood net on an assist from Nick LoBiondo. The Pacers did not go quietly as Marywood inched closer in the 66' on a goal from Kyle Falcon, making it a one-score game. Then in the 80', Matt Kekatos put the game on ice for the Cavs as the senior found the lower left of the Pacers net off an assist from Brian Sharkey, giving the Cavaliers a 4-2 advantage.

The Cavaliers defense and their goalkeeper MJ Graham held the Pacers to just four shots on goal with only two finding the back of the Cabrini net.

With the win, the Cavaliers advance to the AEC Championship semifinals and will head to Neumann University on Tuesday, Nov. 1 to take on the Knights. Start time for Tuesday's match is to be determined.
