ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's basketball team earned its first win of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday night, holding Eastern (1-1) to under 30 percent shooting in three of the final four quarters in a 64-46 win over the Eagles in the Battle of Eagle Road.
The Cavs outscored the Eagles 32-18 in the second half en route to the win.
Senior guard Miranda Leibtag scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, just missing a double-double. She also had four steals and five assists on the night. Junior forward Katie Rodriguez had ten points on 4-for-6 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three blocks.
Freshman guard Ella Gordon added in nine points for Cabrini.
Eastern was led by Taryn Woodson who had 12 points, with Jeriyah Johnson scoring ten off the bench.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 8-3 lead as Kayla Jefferson hit a jumper with 7:31 left in the opening stanza. Cabrini would then go on a 9-0 lead capped by a jumper from Rodriguez with 2:45 left for a 12-8 lead.
Cabrini would give up the lead – briefly at 14-12 – before a short 4-0 run ended by a layup from freshman guard Emma Pyne gave the Cavs a 16-14 lead at the end of the first.
The Cavs would lead all of the second quarter, pulling away as Liebtag scored on a jumper with 1:22 left to give Cabrini a 29-23 lead.
Eastern would not get any closer than three the rest of the way, as Cabrini went up by as much as 17 before winning by 18 in the end.
This marked the third straight win over Eastern by Cabrini.
Cabrini will take part in the The National Beef Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna on Saturday, taking on Misericordia at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
