Cavaliers play to 1-1 draw, fall to Knights in PKs

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's soccer team played Neumann University to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Edith Robb Dixon Field, but it was the Knights that out lasted the Cavs in a penalty kick shootout to advance to the Atlantic East Conference championship match.

The Cavaliers (12-5-1) dominated their offensive side of the pitch all night long but it was the Knights (8-8-4) that drew first blood Wednesday. In the 34', Neumann's Liz Purcell moved quickly on a ball back towards the Cabrini net and chipped it through the posts giving the Knights a 1-nil lead. Cabrini had ample opportunities in the first half but could not convert in the first 45 minutes of action.

After the break, the Cabrini offense continued to mount pressure on the Knights, but the Neumann defense did not let up. Then in the 89', Rebekah Cunningham launched a ball to the top right of the Neumann net, knotting the match at 1-1 and sending the Cavaliers into a frenzy. Despite outshooting the Knights 8-0 in the second half, the match went to overtime.

Despite continuing to outshoot the Knights in the two overtime periods, the Cavaliers could not capitalize, sending the match to a penalty kick shootout. The Cavs went 2-for-4 in the shootout as the Knights made all four of their shots, unfortunately ending the Cavaliers season.
