RADNOR, Pa. – Fourth quarter. Thirty seconds left in regulation.
Aquil Stewart leads Cabrini up the floor, trailing 62-61.
Donoven Mack cuts behind his defender, Stewart feeds him a pass in the paint, and the sophomore finishes at the rim to give the Cavaliers a 63-62 lead and help them to their third consecutive home victory on the year Wednesday night at Nerney Field House.
Freshman
Isaac Brady put the Cavaliers (3-4) out in front 2-0 after a Moravian turnover, but the Greyhounds (1-5) quickly turned the tide in their favor as four consecutive 3-pointers put them out in front 12-7 with 16:42 left in the half. The Greyhounds did not look back as the they led for the rest of the half, taking a 38-31 lead into the break, going 11-for-18 from 3-point range in the first 20:00 of action.
After the break, Cabrini trimmed the Greyhounds lead to just two, 52-50 as
Ryan Byars sank two free throws with 9:36 left in the contest. Moravian took back a four-point lead and led for the next 4:00 until Byars knotted the game at 56 apiece with 5:46 left. At the 2:25 mark,
Christian Lane finished at the rim, drew the foul, and completed the 3-point play to give the Cavs a 59-58 lead, their first since leading 5-3 in the first half. Over the final minute of action, the Cavs and Greyhounds traded buckets, but it was Mack's layup that sealed the win for Cabrini.
Aquil Stewart put up 24 points on the night, his second straight game with 20 or more as the sophomore led all scorers on the floor. Byars finished with 11 points and 12 boards for his first double-double of the year while
Isaac Brady had 10 and nine rebounds.
Moravian's C.J. Weber had 12 points, going 4-for-6 from long range while Marquis Ratcliff led the Greyhounds with 18 as he went 8-for-8 from the field.
The Cabrini men's basketball team will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 5 as the Cavs head to Glassboro, N.J. to square off against the Rowan University Profs. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
