RADNOR, Pa. – Haverford put three players in double figures as the Fords (6-3) defeated Cabrini (2-6) 66-56 Monday evening in a battle of two teams on the Main Line.
The Cavs – playing only their second game at home – did collect nine blocks on the night and did connect on 10-of-17 three pointers (58.8 percent), but, only made two baskets in the second quarter.
Cabrini got 14 points from Abby Paolini, while Katie Rodriguez was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with ten points, ten rebounds and game-high seven blocks. Emma Pyne scored 12 off the bench for the Cavs.
Haverford – who held a 49-30 edge in rebounds – got 18 points from Kayla Robinson and 13 points from Cortlyn Morris. Ally Landau added in 12 for the Fords. Robinson collected 17 rebounds while Morris had 12.
In the first quarter, neither team took more than a three-point lead, with the quarter ending deadlocked at 20 with a layup from Rodriguez coming with 34 ticks left.
Haverford opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to go up 26-20 with 6:27 left on a basked by Erin Albright. The Cavs stayed in it, getting to within five at 30-25 on a three-pointer by Pyne with 3:06 left. Haverford would close the half with two baskets to give the Fords a nine-point lead at 34-25.
Cabrini whittled the deficit down to two midway through the third quarter, as a basket by Rodriguez cut the Ford lead to 36-34 with 5:43 left. Cabrini got to within one at 38-37 on a three-pointer by Ella Gordon with 3:31 left.
On the Fords next possession, blocks by Giana Rullo and Rodriguez kept the deficit to one before a three-pointer from Landau with 2:47 left gave Haverford a four-point lead at 41-37. Haverford would go on another run to go up ten with 9:49 left in the game at 47-37.
Cabrini will host F&M on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
