RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's basketball team dropped its fifth contest in row Friday night as the Cavaliers fell to Franklin & Marshall 50-41 at home.
The first quarter began slowly for both teams as they combined for 17 points with the Cavaliers (2-7) taking a 10-7 lead through the first 10:00 of action. In the second, the Cavs began to pull away as a
Katie Rodriguez jumper gave Cabrini an 11-point lead with 5:07 left before the break. The Diplomats (3-6) ended the quarter on a 6-0 run and cut the Cavs lead to 22-17 by the intermission.
After the break, F&M cut into the Cabrini lead and by the 3:55 mark in the third quarter, the Diplomats knotted the game at 26 apiece before taking a 30-28 lead to end the quarter. In the fourth, the Diplomats lead grew to 11 as F&M took a commanding 39-28 lead with 5:32 left in regulation. Despite cutting the deficit to six with 43 seconds left, the Cavs could not surmount the F&M lead.
Seniors Rodriguez and
Miranda Liebtag led all Cabrini scorers as the duo each put up nine points.
F&M's Jaclyn Feit led all scorers on the night with 27 points for the Diplomats.
The Cabrini women's basketball team will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 11 as the Cavaliers head to Elizabethtown College for a bout with the Blue Jays. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
