RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's basketball team returned to the win column with a comfortable 55-40 final over the Neumann University Knights.
The Blue and White were led offensively by graduate student
Ashley Tutzauer who tallied 16 points including an efficient 2-4 from beyond the three point line.
Freshman
Giana Rullo also finished in double figures with 10 points and six boards, while junior
Miranda Liebtag and sophomore
Katie Rodriguez fished with nine apiece. Rodriguez also had a game high 12 boards and four blocks.
The Cavalier defense was dominant on the night as they held the Knights to just 14 made field goals and 23.3 percent from the field, highlighted by the visitors shooting just 5-for-30 in the opening half. The Cavs also held a decisive 28-12 advantage of points scored inside the paint.
Cabrini jumped out to a 9-0 lead just under the eight minute mark, capped by a Rullo layup inside the paint. The Knights were held off the board until a Dymond Collins jumper and Madison Stewart trey made it a four point game. Rullo added a layup before time expired in the quarter to make it 11-5 in favor of the home team.
Neumann opened the second with a 7-3 run to pull back within one shot, 14-12, but ultimately this would be as close as the Knight's would come to tying the game. The Cavs responded with a 9-1 run, highlighted by an
Abby Paolini shot from beyond the arc, as they went into the break holding a 23-13 advantage.
The Cavs tacked on five points, including a Tutzauer trey in the opening two minutes of the second half to open up a 15 point advantage, 28-13. Neumann outscored Cabrini 15-7 over the remainder of the third sparked by a three minute span in which the Knight's made 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, 35-28.
The Blue and White responded with an 8-0 run to open the final frame and regain a 15 point lead, capped by Tutzauer's second three of the day, 43-28. A 9-4 run kept the Knights in the game before the Cavaliers closed out the game with eight of the final 11 points for the 55-40 final.
In addition to returning to the win column, the Cavs also improved to 6-4 in Atlantic East play good for third place in the conference. They will look to keep things rolling when they host Centenary University in the final home game of the regular season this Wednesday, February 16. Tipoff is slated for 6PM.
