RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's basketball concluded their final home game of the regular season with a commanding 87-45 victory over Centenary University in a key Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Offensively, the Cavaliers were led by senior
Hannah Fenstermacher who had a career night with highs in points, 22, and rebounds with five.
Graduate student
Ashley Tutzauer added 17 points and seven boards, while junior
Syd Kesselman matched her career high with nine points.
Dani Tyrell fished the day with three points, four rebounds and three assists.
After the Blue and White rattled off the aforementioned 13-to-0 run, the Cyclones' Kaylie Elsbree and Danika Brandt made shots from beyond the arc, only interrupted by a Tutzauer jumper inside the paint, to briefly cut the lead back to single digits, 15-6. Cabrini outscored the Centenary 5-1 over the final three minutes of the quarter for the 20-8 score after one.
The Blue and White opened the second quarter with a 23-5 run over a seven minute span to balloon the lead to 30, 43-13. Three of Fenstermacher's game high six three pointers came during this stretch. Brandt ended the run once again with her second three pointer of the day but the Cavs responded with an 8-0 run, emphasized by a Tyrell trey at the buzzer to take a 51-16 advantage into the break.
The Blue and White outscored the Wolverines 36-19 in the second half as they were able to coast to their seventh Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory behind a strong effort on both sides of the ball.
In total, the Cavalier defense forced 20 turnovers, 14 of which came in the first half, and held the visitors to just 29.7 percent shooting from the field. The Blue and White also made a season high 12 shots from beyond the arc. The Wolverines were led offensively by Victoria Jacobs's 11 points. Brandt finished closly behind with nine points for the visitors.
With the victory, the Cavaliers improved to 12-12 overall and 7-3 in the AEC. Cabrini is now tied with Immaculata University for the second seed in the Conference. The Cavs travel to Scranton, PA this Saturday, February 19
th, to face the fifth seeded Marywood University Pacers. Game time is slated for 1pm.
