Game Recap: Basketball (Men) |

McDonald Reaches Century Mark, as Men's Basketball Outruns the Cyclones on Senior Night

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a come from behind 96-90 win over the Centenary University Cyclones tonight at Nerney Field House.

The victory also marked 100th career win for head coach Tim McDonald.

Prior to the game, the Blue and White honored its five seniors Ryan Byars, Pat Costa, Brendon Fisher, Brice Parks and Billy Warren, along with manager Hannah Burke.

The energy from the ceremony carried over into the game, as their aggressive play in the opening minutes gave the Cavaliers an early lead.

The first half remained tight with 10 lead changes and six ties. It looked like Cabrini gained control of the action in the final minutes of the first half, using a 12-4 run to take a 39-30 lead with just under three minutes to play before the break, but it was the Cyclones who scored the final eight points of the frame to pull within 39-38 at the half.

The game's second half play a bit closer than the first, as evidenced by 14 ties and 20 lead changes. The final deadlock came at 69 with just 4:14 to play. Sophomore Aquil Stewart broke the tie on Cabrini's next possession beginning igniting a 12-5 run.

A steal by sophomore Milton Robinson led to a Centenary foul and subsequent technical foul. Stewart drained both free throws before Robinson found Byars for a lay-up to put the Cavaliers ahead 83-74 with 1:42 to play.

The cushion proved to be important, as the Cyclone made six of their final nine field goal attempts to keep the game close, but the Cavaliers made the most of their possessions over the game's final five minutes.

Cabrini made each of its final seven field goal attempts over the final 4:26 and went 13-19 from the charity stripe in the game's final two minutes to keep the visitors at bay.

The Blue and White's 96 points marked a season high, while its .472 field goal percentage, 46 rebounds, 16 assists and 10 turnovers marked some the team's best performances of the season.

While the home side got important contributions from up and down the lone-up, it was Byars' game that stood out, as the senior scored a career high 35 points on 11-16 from the field and 13-21 from the free throw line to go with 15 rebounds.

Stewart finished the night with 28 points, including 19 in the second half, while Warren paired 10 points and nine rebounds.

Centenary senior Billy Veras played all 40 minutes of the game, pairing 22 points and 18 rebounds, while classmate Chris LaBelle tallied 24 points before fouling out in the final minute.

The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy tonight's victory, as they will return to action on Thursday, when they welcome Neumann University to Nerney Field House. Tip is slated for 7pm.
