Men's Baskteball Closes Regular Season with Win at Marywood

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team closed its regular season on a high note, as the Cavaliers scored an 86-79 victory at Marywood this afternoon.

By virtue of today's win, the Blue and White has secure the number four seed in next week's Atlantic East Conference Tournament and will host number five seed Immaculata at 8pm.

Six Cavaliers scored north of eight points in today's win, led by sophomore Aquil Stewart's 19 points. The sophomore also added seven assists and three steals to his stat line.

Senior Ryan Byars posted his fourth double-double of the season, pairing 16 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Donoven Mack matched Byars with 16 points, one off his season high. Senior Brice Parks and sophomore Milton Robinson scored 10 points each, while sophomore Josh Jones paired eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Cabrini scored the game's first eight points and led through most of the first half. Trailing 31-25 at the 4:44 mark, the Pacers made their move.

The home side used a 7-0 spur to grab its first lead of the day. Less than a minute later, Byars put the Cavaliers back up, where they would stay until the halftime break .

The Blue and White carried a 38-35 lead into the second half and wasted little time extending its advantage. The Cavaliers pushed their lead to nine points at the 17:40 mark before using a 7-0 spurt to take a 56-40 lead with 15:50 to play.

The Pacers slowly crept back into the game, using a 19-6 run to cut their deficit to 62-59 with 8:35 to play.

Cabrini held its slim lead over the next several minutes, but a 4-0 Marywood spurt put the Pacers ahead 70-69 with 4:17 to play. The Cavaliers responded with five straight points of their own, as a Stewart steal and bucket put the visitors ahead for good.

While the Pacers kept the game close over the final three minutes, but the Cavaliers converted six of its eight attempts from the free throw line to seal the win.

The Cavaliers shot .492 from the floor, handed out 17 assists and grabbed 41 rebounds, each among its best performances of the year.

Corey Perkins led the Pacers with 20 points and eight assists in the loss.

The Cavaliers and Mighty Macs split their two regular season match-ups, with each winning on their home floor.

After leading by 17 points in the first half, the Cavaliers needed every second of the game's 40 minutes to pull out a 70-68 win. Stewart found Byars with just four seconds on the clock to give Cabrini the win.

Just two days later, the teams met again, this time at Immaculata. The Cavaliers led by as many as 12 points early in the second half, but made just three field goals over a 10 minute span of the second half. The scoring drought proved to be the difference, as the Blue and White fell 88-81.
