Softball Drops 2 in Grapefruit Action

CLERMONT, FL – The Cavaliers suffered a pair of losses on day two of its Spring Break, falling to Moravian 6-2 before a 6-5 walk off loss to Calvin in the nightcap.

The Blue and White will look to return to the win column on Tuesday, as it faces Finlandia at 12:15pm and Wartburg at 5:15pm.

Moravian 6, Cabrini 2
The Cavaliers fell behind early, as the Greyhounds strung together four consecutive singles to score two runs. Moravian added to its lead in the fourth, as a Cabrini error led to an unearned run.

The Blue and White got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Allison Martin and Kaitlyn Martin opened the frame with singles before freshman Dorian Ilyes' single plated Allison Martin. After a double steal, Kaitlyn Martin crossed the dish on sophomore Kelsey Huling's ground out.

Moravian extended its lead in the sixth, as three extra base hits led to three runs and a 6-2 lead.

Kaitlyn Martin paced the Cabrini offense, accounting for two of the clubs 5 hits, while junior Avery Byrnes suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs on six hits.

Calvin 6, Cabrini 5
Like the opener, the Cavaliers fell behind early, as Calvin scored a run in the second and two in the third. The Blue and White offense woke up in the top of the fourth. The Cavaliers loaded the bases before sophomore Madison Gugel scored on a passed ball. Two batters later, Ilyes' single scored Kaitlyn Martin.

Cabrini then evened the score at 3-3 on sophomore Emma Barbera's infield ground out, scoring Allison Martin.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the sixth, when Calvin's Addi Warner blasted a two run homer for a 5-3 lead.

The Cavaliers answered on the top of the seventh with a two out rally. Freshman Abby Tobelmann reached with a single before stealing second and advancing to third on a single by sophomore Ariana Mirenda, who then swiped second.

The stolen base paid off, as both Tobelmann and Mirenda scored on a single by freshman Shauna Stotler, tying the game at 5-5.

The Knights evened the game quickly in the seventh, as Taylor Sanborn led off with a double before advancing to third and scoring on a pair of wild pitches.
