Men's Basketball Can't Overcome Early Deficit in Marymount Loss

RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers dropped their third consecutive games tonight, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered an 86-60 loss to Marymount inside Nerney Field House.

With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Blue and White sit at 3-6 in the Atlantic East Conference, good for fifth place.

Sophomore Aquil Stewart led the Cavaliers with 19 points, while classmate Josh Jones joined freshmen Donoven Mack and Jaden Dickerson with seven points each.

Jones also matched senior Billy Warren with nine rebounds.

The Cavaliers got off to a slow start offensively, as the Saints took full advantage. The visitors used an early 14-2 run to build a 24-9 lead at the 11:15 mark of the first half.

After trailing by as many as 20 points in the first half, Cabrini closed the stanza trailing 44-29. Despite shooting .400 from the floor, the Cavaliers shot just 3-10 from three point range, while Marymount drained six of its ll attempts from beyond the line and shot .533 overall.

The Blue and White chipped away at its deficit in the second half, as back to back Jones lay-ins pulled the Cavaliers to within 53-46 with 13:22 to play. The Saints responded with back to back triples to regain their 13 point cushion.

Cabrini looked to make a late push, as Stewart found Warren for a lay-up to pull the home side to within 67-57, but it would be the Blue and White's final field goal, as Marymount outscored Cabrini 19-1 over the final 5:32.

The Cavaliers continued their cold shooting after the break, tallying a .290 field goal percentage in the second half, while the Saints hit 14-25 from the floor, including 6-8 from three point range.

Sophomore Montell Cooper matched Stewart with 19 points, while senior Xavier Reaves paired 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Marcus Stubbs added 17 points.

The Cavaliers have the weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday, as they play host to Centenary. Tip is slated for 8pm inside Nerney Field House.
