Women's Basketball Can't Overcome Early Deficit Versus Marymount

Tutzauer and Rullo combine for 34 points but fall to Saints 57-53

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's basketball team fell by a 57-53 final this evening at home against the Marymount University Saints 

The Cavs were struggled on the glass as the Saints finished with a 46-25 advantage in rebounds, including a 16-3 edge in offensive rebounds

The duo of graduate student Ashley Tutzauer and freshman Giana Rullo led the Blue and White offensively with 17 points apiece. Rullo's earned the double-double as she set a new career high in points and added 11 boards.

Cabrini opened the game with four of the first six, courtesy of Katie Rodriguez and Rullo, but the Saints grabbed momentum with a 9-0 run to pull ahead 11-4 just past the midway point in the first quarter. Marymount took a 15-10 advantage into the second in thanks to 11 points off of six turnovers in the opening quarter.

Freshman Courtney Paulson setup sophomore Abby Paolini for a trey in the opening minute of the second to pull within one shot of the lead, 15-13, but the Saints offense ramped up once again with  9-2 run over the next three minutes of play. The Cavs outscored Marymount 9-7 over the remainder of the second, highlighted by a Tutzauer shot from beyond the arc for three, but still trailed 31-24 headed into the break.

The Cavaliers continued to chip away at the lead in the second half, whittling the lead down to five with 5:45 left in the third quarter after a jumper from Rullo but the Saints maintained the five point advantage for the remainder of the quarter and went into the final frame with a 41-36 lead. 
 
After a Rullo layup to open the final quarter Marymount went on a 10-3 run to open up a double-digit lead, 51-41, with 7:27 remaining on the clock. The Blue and White mounted a valiant comeback attempt, with a 12-4 run, sparked by three three-pointers from Tutzauer to make it 55-53 in favor of the Saints with 43 seconds to play. Marymount capitalized on two free throw attempts late in the game to escape with the aforementioned 57-53 victory.
 
The Saint's Chandler Eddleton led all scorers with 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Claire Smith also had a double-double for Marymount with 11 points and 13 boards, while Symantha Shackelford finished with 14 points.

With the loss the Cavaliers' record drops to 10-11 on the season, 5-4 in Atlantic East Conference play. They will look to get back on track as they play host to Salisbury University this Saturday at 1PM.
