RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University baseball team returned to Cabrini-Carroll Field for the first time in over a month and did not disappoint as the Cavaliers won the Battle of Eagle Road 11-3 over the Eastern University Eagles.
After a scoreless inning for the Eagles, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage, highlighted by a leadoff double from senior
Garrett Laraia. Later in the inning, graduate student
Steven Priest brought Laraia home with a sacrifice fly out to right field.
After back-to-back 1-2-3 innings for Eastern, the Blue and White went back to work in the bottom of the third. Senior
Mack McKisson doubled to left field to bring Laraia home and Priest picked up his second RBI of the day with another sacrifice fly, this time to left field, 3-0.
The Eagles responded in the top of the fourth as they quickly loaded the bases and converted a single and hit by pitch into two RBI's before the Cavs made a pitching change. With only one out on the board and the bases loaded senior
Dustin Sutton made a terrific sliding play for the foul out. On the mound, senior
Jonathan Baker closed out the inning with a crucial strikeout to preserve the lead, 3-2.
Cabrini carried the momentum into the bottom of the fourth as they added four runs on two hits, highlighted by a McKisson double to right field for two RBI's, 7-2.
Eastern once again loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but only managed to bring in one additional run as Connor Schilling grounded into a 6-5-3 double play, 7-3.
The 7-3 score would hold until the Cavs added four insurance runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left line for Priest, 11-3.
Sophomore
Pat Toal came in to close the game in the ninth and threw two strikeouts and only allowed a single hit to preserve the victory, 11-3.
Senior
Jonathan Baker pitched 1.2 innings in relief and earned the win as he allowed two hits with one strikeout to improve to 2-1 on the season. Sophomore
