RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University baseball team won their fifth consecutive with a commanding 13-3 victory over the visiting Rosemont College Ravens.
The Cavaliers put themselves in a difficult situation to open the game, as the Ravens quickly loaded the bases on a single and two walks before notching their first run of the day on a fielder's choice. With two runners on base and two outs on the board, freshman
James Mercante struck out Rosemont's Rob Lucas to keep the score at 1-0.
Cabrini responded in the bottom of the inning with five runs on two hits and no errors, as they tied the game on a few errant pitches before sophomore
Zack Brook hit his third homer of the year for three RBI's and the 5-1 lead.
After a 1-2-3 second for the Ravens the Cavs tacked on one additional run in the bottom of inning as
Mack McKisson grounded out to second for one RBI, 6-1.
Sophomore
Pat Toal went to work on the mound in the third and with the bases loaded it was Rosemont's Lucas who struck out swinging for the second time with multiple runners left on base.
The Cavaliers added three additional runs over the next two innings highlighted by designated hitter
Billy D'Ambrosia's ground out to shortstop in the bottom of the third for an RBI and senior
Gil Peralta RBI single to right field in the bottom of the fourth, 9-1.
The visitors added a game high four hits in the top of the fifth for two runs but the Cavaliers grounded the Ravens the rest of the way, outscoring them 3-0 over the final three and a half innings.
Toal earned the victory on the mound as he improved to 3-0 on the year, with one hit, no runs and two strikeouts in an innings worth of work.
Sopomore
Christian Strickland went 3-5 at the plate for three RBI's on the day.
Gil Peralta and
Garrett Laraia each recorded two hits apiece.
With the victory Cabrini improved to 11-3 on the season, including their current five game win streak. Up next on the schedule for the Cavaliers is a doubleheader versus Haverford College this Saturday, March 19th. First pitch is set for 12PM.
