MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Cabrini University baseball team won both games of a double-header versus Newport News Apprentice School and Hanover College on Tuesday but fell to Christopher Newport University this morning.
03/01/22 - Game 1: Cabrini 9, Newport News 2
After a scoreless inning for Newport News, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage on three hits and no errors in the bottom of the first inning. Three of the Cavs first four batters hit one-baggers to load the bases. In the five-hole, sophomore
Zack Brook was walked to put the Blue and White on the board. Senior
Dustin Sutton reached on a fielder's choice, and fellow classmate
Gil Peralta scored to make it 2-0.
The Blue and White carried that 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third where it got right back to work. Peralta doubled to center field and Brook homered to left field for the first homerun of his NCAA career.
After two more quick innings from the Builders, the Cavs added on more insurance as graduate student
Steven Priest hit a grand slam to make it 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
Each team added one run in the sixth, highlighted by sophomore
Jake Eagle's RBI-single to make it 9-1. The Builders notched their final run in the top of the seventh as the Cavaliers easily walked away with the aforementioned 9-2 victory.
Three Cavs recorded multiple hits, led by three apiece from
Mack McKisson and
Gil Peralta. Brook finished the day with two hits, including the homer. Priest's four RBI's led the team, his grand slam was his fifth career homerun.
Freshman
Jordan Silvestri improved to 2-0 in his career, as he threw for seven innings with six hits and three strikeouts.
03/01/22 - Game 2: Cabrini 9, Hanover 5 (11 inn.)
The Cavs picked up their fifth consecutive win in dramatic fashion during the back end of the double header as they used a four run eleventh inning to capture the 9-5 victory over Hanover College.
Four different Cavaliers recorded at least two hits in the extra inning effort, led by
Gil Peralta's three RBI's, including a homerun.
Four other Cavaliers;
Garrett Laraia,
Mack McKisson,
Dustin Sutton and Each Kochel IV, each picked up an RBI of their own.
Sophomore
Dom Marotta tossed six strong innings in relief for the Blue and White as he allowed just two hits and no runs, while striking out six for the victory.
03/02/22 – Christopher Newport 5, Cabrini 2
The Captains cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Cavaliers in thanks to strong performance from starter Jack Braley who logged 5.2 innings after being relieved in the bottom of the sixth. The righty struck out eight while allowing just five hits.
Graduate student
Steven Priest talled two hits, while five others tallied a single hit. Sophomore
Jon Sepe recorded the lone RBI for the Blue and White with a single in the bottom of the ninth to bring fellow sophomore
Zack Brook home.
Senior
Mack McKisson was saddled with the loss after working four innings and allowing three earned.
The Blue and White will continue their spring break trip with back-to-back games against Purchase College this Friday, March 4
th. Game one is slated to begin at 10AM.
