McKisson Reaches Milestone as Cavaliers Win Pair Against Purchase College

Priest Records three home runs in wins over the Panthers

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Cabrini University baseball team got back into the win column with a pair of victories over Purchase College

Game 1: Cabrini 6, Purchase 2
The Cavaliers jumped ahead in the top of first as senior Gil Peralta hit an RBI-single. Two frames later, Cabrini more than doubled that margin, notching three more runs in the third, highlighted Steven Priest's first two-RBI homerun of the day to lead 4-0.

Priest added his second two-RBI homer of the day in the fifth to push the lead out to 6-0, before the Panthers managed an answer of their own.

Purchase responded with two RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth but the Blue and White held on for the victory after forcing Purchase into a 1-2-3 inning to close the game.

The Cavaliers recorded 13 hits in the victory, as Mack McKisson and Zack Brook each recorded three apiece. Peralta, Priest and senior Dustin Sutton all finished the game with two hits.

Senior Jonathan Baker pitcher a complete game for his third victory of the season, striking out three and allowing two earned runs.

Game 2: Cabrini 14, Purchase 2
Following the low-scoring opener Cabrini's bats light up the nightcap, as the Cavaliers finished with 14 runs on 13 hits.

After a scoreless first inning, Priest notched his third homerun of the day to claim a 1-0 advantage. The 1-0 margin would hold steady until Peralta homered down the left line to begin the bottom of the fourth. The Cavs would tack on one more before the end of the inning as Priest made it home on an error by the shortstop, 3-0

After recording just four hits through the first four innings Cabrini knocked in seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth, kicked off by McKisson's 200th career hit, a two RBI double to centerfield. Sophomore Pat Toal capped the run with a double to right center for three RBI's.

Division II transfer, Zack Brook, hit his first career grand slam in the sixth inning to push the lead to 14-0.

The Pathers added two runs in the top of the seventh for the 14-2 Cavaliers victory.

On the mound, freshman James Mercante pitched a complete game, with three strikeouts and two runs allowed as he improved to 3-0 to start his career.

With the pair of wins Cabrini improved to 8-3 on the season, including 6-1 on the spring break trip. Up next for the Cavaliers is the final day down in Myrtle Beach, SC as they take on Kean University. First pitch is set for 9AM tomorrow, March 5th
