Cabrini Baseball Matches Program Record with Ninth Straight Win

Cavs hit season high four homeruns in first AEC game of the season

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University baseball team recorded seven runs in the fifth inning to cruise to a comfortable 13-3 Atlantic East Conference victory over the visiting Neumann University Knights. 

With the win the Cavs matched the longest winning stream in program history, 9-0, which was set back in 2019.
 
Five different Cavaliers recorded two hits, including sophomore Pat Toal who homered his first two at bats.

Seniors Garrett Laraia, Gil Peralta and Earl Kochel IV, as well as sophomore Zack Brook were the others to mark the hit column twice. Peralta and Brook drove in three runs, while Kochel and Toal finished the game with two RBI's a piece.

Graduate students Steven Priest and Brendan Van Belle, along with senior Mack McKisson each recorded a single hit as the Cavs fished the day with 13 on the day, their second highest output of the season.

Senior Jonathan Baker toed the rubber for the Cavs and allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts across 8.0 innings of work. Freshman Brett Harrelle, who came on in relief of Baker, put in the final innings worth of work allowing one run three hits.

After a scoreless inning, Toal registered the Cavaliers first hit and run of the game he homered past left field.

The Knights, Marcus White, responded for the visitors two innings later as he tied the game at one apiece with a home run.

Not to be outdone, Toal kicked things off in the bottom of the fifth with his second homerun of the afternoon, 2-1. Van Belle followed suit with a double to center field and a pair walks helped Cabrini load the bases, With the bases loaded, Peralta hit a two-RBI double to left center field, 4-1. The Cavs added four more runs in the inning on a wild pitch, a Priest RBI-single, and a two-RBI homerun for sophomore Zack Brook. The Cavs finished the inning with an impressive five hits and seven runs scored, 8-1.

A one-two-three sixth inning for Neumann led way to two additional runs for the home team, highlighted by an Brook's RBI-double as he brought home his third of the day, 10-1.

The Knights picked up one run in the top of the seventh but a two-RBI homer for Kochel and a total of three runs in bottom of the innings squashed any hopes of comeback. It was the first time this season the Cavs recorded four homeruns in a game.

Neumann's Nate Griffin was stuck with the loss after allowing eight earned runs in five innings of work. 

Following today's game the Diamond Cavs improve to 15-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They'll have a quick turnaround as they travel to Aston, PA tomorrow for their back half of the home-and-home with Neumann. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 12PM.
