RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University baseball team's win streak ends at nine, as they fell to the Neumann University Knights 11-3 in the opener and 14-4 in back half of the double header.
Game 1: (Seven Inn.)
Cabrini tied the game at three all in the top of the sixth but eight runs on six hits, including a solo homerun to kick things off, three walks and an error all but secured the victory for Neumann as they went on to win 11-3.
Sophomore
Zack Brook led the way offensively for the Cavs as he went two-for-four at the plate, including all three RBIs. Graduate student
Steven Priest and senior
Gil Peralta also marked the hit column for the Blue and White.
Neumann jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening inning and did not allow a hit through the first three.
In the top of the fourth Brook hit a deep RBI-single out to left field for the team's first hit of the day.
The Knights responded with an RBI-single of their own the following inning to grab a 3-1 lead.
The Cavs tied the game at three apiece as Brook hit a two-RBI homerun in the top of the sixth but the Knights received stellar pitching the rest of the way as they stymied the Cavs offense through the remainder of the game.
Sophomore
Pat Toal put in 2.1 innings worth of work as he started the game on mound. Toal allowed two runs on one hit, with one strikeout. Classmate
Dom Marotta relieved Toal and threw for 3.1 innings allowing six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Dino came in to get the final out in the bottom of the sixth and allowed three runs on two hits.
The loss snapped the Cavs program-tying win streak at nine games.
Game 2:
The Cavs took an early 2-0 lead over Neumann in the nightcap, but couldn't contain the streaking Knights' offense as they allowed 12 runs over the final five innings.
Senior
Mack McKisson went 2-for-4 at the plate and also recorded one steal.
Freshman
Jordan Silvestri started the game on the mound and went 4.0 innings. He allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits. Classmate
James Mercante went 2.0 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits. Freshman
Sean Glatts and junior
Alex Pierznik each put in a single innings worth of work, allowing four runs on two hits and three runs on three hits, respectively.
Cabrini got on the board first with senior
Dustin Sutton hit a long ball to center field for an RBI-double. Sutton advanced to third on a wild pitch and made it home on an error by the second baseman to make it 2-0.
Neumann responded in the bottom of the third with two runs and grabbed the lead with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth.
After tacking on one additional run in the bottom of the sixth the Knights erupted in similar fashion to their performance in the opener with seven runs on five hits, including a another solo homerun to start the inning, four walks and an error.
Down, 14-2, the Glatts and sophomore
Jon Sepe hit RBI-singles but it was too little and too late for the Cavs as they fell by the aforementioned 14-4 final.
With the pair of losses Cabrini drops to 15-5 on the year and 1-2 in AEC play. The Cavs will return to Cabrinii-Carroll Field on Monday, March 28
th for a tilt with Cairn University. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
