RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team snapped its five game losing streak in a big way tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a 21-12 win over Stockton University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
In addition to scoring a season high 21 goals, the Blue and White also recorded season highs with 43 shots and 28 draw controls.
Seniors
Dana Carlson and
Olivia Little paced the Cabrini offense, as both recorded six goals, while etching their names in the program record book.
Carlson's seven points give her 204 for her career, making her just the 12th Cavaliers in program history to record 200 points. Little, who added three helpers and seven draw controls to her stat line, surpassed the century mark with tonight's production.
Graduate student
Ashley Tutzauer paired two goals and two assists, while senior
Shea Neary and freshman
Morgan McClintock added two goals each. Neary also secured a career high 19 draw controls, after recording just 21 through six contests.
Senior goaltender
Sam Hamalak was strong in the Cabrini cage, pairing eight saves and four ground balls.
The Cavaliers struggled to find their collective footing in the first quarter, as the Ospreys ran out to a 3-0 lead. Cabrini finally got on the board with 11 seconds left in the period, as sophomore
Caroline Gallagher found the back of the net.
Little recorded her 100th point in the opening minutes of the second quarter, cutting the home side's deficit to 3-2. Thirty seconds later, Stockton regained its two goals cushion but the Blue and White had a response, as Little and freshman
Neve Murphy netted two goals in 20 seconds to even the score.
The Ospreys briefly regained the lead at the 8:24 mark, but the Blue and White responded with four unanswered goals to take control of the game. Little and McClintock combined to score three goals in a 55 second span before sophomore
Marissa Mullan pushed the Cabrini lead to 8-5 with just under six minutes left in the half.
The Cavaliers carried their three goal lead into the halftime break after a Carlson with 4:07 left in the stanza.
Carlson wasted little time in the third quarter recording her 200th career point, marking the scoring column less than 90 seconds into the period. The teams alternated goals throughout much of the third quarter, but a Stockton free position goal pulled the visitors to within 12-9 with 4:07 left in the third.
While the visitors looked to pull closer, the Cavaliers responded with their second 4-0 spurt of the day, sparked by a Carlson marker with less than two minutes left in the third.
Neary, Carlson and Little extended the lead to 16-9 with goals in the opening 2:30 of the fourth quarter. The Ospreys pulled to within 18-12 with their fifth free position goal of the night at the 5:41 mark, but any hopes of a late comeback were dashed, as McClintock and Carlson pushed the lead back to eight with two goals in 22 seconds.
Seniors Michelle Pascrell and Casey Schultz joined junior Mary Meduri with three goals each for Stockton, while junior goaltender Jordan Hawkes notched 12 saves.
The Cavaliers will look to begin a win streak on Thursday, as they open Atlantic East Conference with a trip to Immaculata University. the opening draw is slated for 4pm.
