IMMACULATA, PA - The Cabrini baseball team earned a split at Atlantic East Conference leading Immaculata University this afternoon with a victory in the nightcap. The win ended the Mighty Macs streak of eight consecutive conference wins as they fell to 8-1 in AEC play.
Game One: Immaculata 4, Cabrini 1
Freshman
Brian Dino took the tough luck loss for the Cavs in game two after tossing a complete game. The lefty allowed just two hits and four runs (three earned), while striking out seven.
The Mighty Macs, Mason Keller, collected his fifth win of the year after allowing three hits and one runs in six innings. Trevor Wagner collected his third save after facing the minimum across one inning of work.
Sophomore
Pat Toal led the offense as he went two-for-two at the plate. Seniors
Garrett Laraia and
Gil Peralta rounded out the Cavs to mark the hit column.
The Mighty Macs struck first in the bottom of the first after loading the bases on a pair of walks and a batter being hit, the home team used a ground out to second followed by a sacrifice fly to plate two, 2-0.
Immaculata increased their lead to three in the bottom of the second thanks to a Cavs throwing error, 3-0.
The Cavaliers would get the run back, however in the top of the fifth as
Earl Kochel IV reached first on a throwing error by the short stop and Toal advanced home for the unearned run.
The Mighty Macs would again answer in their half the frame, this time pushing across one run for the eventual 4-1 final.
Game Two: Marymount 5, Cabrini 4
The Cavs received a strong start on the bump from
Jonathan Baker as the senior tossed 7.2 strong innings of two run ball. The righty scattered four hits and struck out three, with three walks. Following today's start, Baker improved to 6-2 on the season.
Classmate
Mack McKisson put in the final 1.1 innings of work on the mound and hit not allow a run or a hit and threw two strikeouts.
McKisson also led the offense as he collected two of the Cavaliers' eight hits on the afternoon, finishing 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Fellow senior,
Dustin Sutton, and graduate student
Steven Priest each recorded a hit and an RBI. Priest also notched one of the teams four runs. Freshman
Sean Glatts went 1-for-1 at the plate with one run. Seniors
Gil Peralta and
Garrett Laraia, as well as sophomore
Pat Toal rounded out the hit column with one apiece, Peralta also added one run.
The first three innings of action proved to be a pitchers dual as neither starter had allowed a run, but the Blue and White finally broke through in the top of the fourth.
After a strikeout to begin the inning, Peralta got things started with a double to left field and then advanced to third on a ground out by sophomore
Zack Brook. Priest plated Peralta as he doubled to center and then advanced home thanks to an E3 fielding error to make it 2-0 in favor of the Cavs.
Two innings went by before Mighty Macs responded in the bottom of the sixth with a two-RBI homerun courtesy of Josh Crowding, 2-2.
The Diamond Cavs regained the lead the following inning. After a pair of quick outs, McKisson singled up the middle and then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Sutton brought McKisson home with a double to right field, 3-2.
The 3-1 Cavalier lead would hold steady until the top of the ninth. Glatts advanced to second on a bunt thanks to an E5 throwing. Glatts would find his way home with a sacrifice fly by Christian Stickland to get to third followed by a McKisson RBI-single to make it the aforementioned 4-2 score. McKisson would strike out two of Immaculata's final three batters en route to a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.
Following today's double dip, the Cavs are now 20-8 overall and 5-4 in AEC play. They will head to Scranton, PA this Friday, April 22nd to face host Marywood University with the first pitch scheduled for 3PM.
