SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini University Diamond Cavs allowed just one run on seven hits in a 9-1 Atlantic East Conference victory over the Marywood University Pacers. With the victory the Cavaliers improve to 21-8 on the season, 6-4 in conference play.
After a hitless top of the first for the Cavaliers, the Pacers jumped out to an early lead thanks to a leadoff triple by Vinny D'Auria. Following a strikeout, Marywood's Jake Schuster hit an RBI-double to right field for the 1-0 lead.
The Cavs responded with two runs in the top of the second. The Blue and White used a fielder's choice followed by a walk and a wild pitch put runners on second and third. Freshman,
Sean Glatts, plated both runners with a two-RBI single through the left side.
The 2-1 score would hold until the top of the fourth when senior
Garrett Laraia kicked off the inning with a single to center field. Laraia advanced to third thanks to a sacrifice bunt followed by a sacrifice fly out. A fielding error at shortstop allowed Laraia to advance home and fellow senior
Mack McKisson to safely make his way to first, 3-1.
Senior
Gil Peralta tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, thanks to a tremendous individual effort. Peralta reached first on a single and then advanced to second, third and eventually home on three separate wild pitches, 5-1.
In the top of the sixth sophomore
Christian Strickland singled through the right side to begin the inning. Strickland then advanced on second as McKisson reached first on a fielding error in left field. A
Dustin Sutton sacrifice bunt followed by a Peralta sacrifice fly brought Stickland home, 5-1.
The 5-1 score would hold until the Diamond Cavs put the game out of reach with four runs on five hits in the top of the eighth. The innings was highlighted by an RBI-double from graduate student
Steven Priest, and sophomore
Zack Brook's two-RBI single to left center.
Senior pitcher
Jonathan Baker improved to 7-2 on the year after surrendering one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Freshman,
Jordan Silvestri, put in the final two innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits and struck out one.
Brook led the team offensively with two hits, two RBI, one run and a team high two steals. The Cavs finished the game with a season high eight stolen bases. Peralta and Glatts each had one hit and two RBI, Peralta also scored one run. Laraia finished the day with two runs and one hit.
The Cavaliers will have a quick turnaround as the complete the three-game series, when they host a doubleheader versus the Pacers tomorrow, April 23
rd. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
