Women's Lacrosse Erases Late Deficit but Falls to Rowan in OT

RADNOR, PA – The Cavalier scored two goals in the final 34 seconds to complete a fourth quarter comeback and send the game to overtime, but the visiting Rowan Profs needed just one shot to close the action, downing the Cavaliers 17-16 today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The Blue and White trailed throughout the game and fell behind by as many as four goals midway through the second quarter.

Cabrini found itself looking up at a 15-12 deficit with 6:42 to play. The three goal deficit remained until freshman Morgan McClintock converted a free position shot with 2:30 to play.

The Cavaliers pulled to within one goal 45 seconds later, as senior Olivia Little netted an unassisted goal. While a Rowan yellow card gave Cabrini an extra woman opportunity, the Profs found their way to the scoresheet, regaining their two goal lead with 46 ticks on the clock.

Little won the ensuing draw control and found classmate Dana Carlson seconds later to pull Cabrini to within 16-15. The Cavaliers continued to battle, as Little claimed another draw control, her 10th of the game to give the home team more life.

As the final seconds were ticking off the clock, sophomore Marissa Mullan found Carlson, who netted her seventh goal with just 0.2 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.

The Profs controlled the opening draw of the extra period and needed just 49 seconds to close the action.

Carlson led the way with season highs of seven goals and nine draw controls. Little and graduate student Ashley Tutzauer posted six points each, combining for six goals and six assists, while Little claimed game-high honors with 10 draw controls.

Senior goaltender Sam Hamalak suffered the loss despite pairing seven saves and five ground balls. Sophomore Caroline Gallagher added to the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Senior Shannen Sterner led the Profs with four goals, while juniors Jamie Cutrera and Erin Rinshaw added three goals each. Senior goaltender Reilly Shaup totaled 16 saves and five ground balls in the win.

The Cavaliers will return to Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, as they play host to Marywood University in a rematch of the 2021 conference championship. The opening draw is slated for 4pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
